Sandidge Cemetery,
Madison County Alabama
The Sandidge-Nuckolls Cemetery is a family cemetery. The Cemetery is located in Madison County, Alabama. To reach the cemetery go north from Meridianville on US Hwy 231 and turn east on Steger Road. Take Nuckolls Lane into the Whitaker Landing Subdivision and cemetery is on the right side in the second block. See Figure 2. Platt of Whitaker Landing for more information.
Tombstones from the Sandidge, Nuckolls and the Whitaker families are in the cemetery. There are seven tombstones identified as Nuckolls. Three are identified as Sandidge and four are identified as Whitaker. Plat map shows the location of graves. Eliza Caroline Sandidge Nuckolls was born in Franklin, Heard County, Georgia 12 Feb 1815. She married Samuel Overton Nuckolls. Her parents are Garrett Longmire Sandridge and France Susan Sandidge. Her tombstone and her mother’s tombstones are identified in the cemetery.
Garrett Sandridge is listed in the 1850 Census along with France, Elizabeth, Laura, and John Sandidge. The were living in Madison County. AL. Frances and Rev. John Sandidge are buried in the Sandidge-Nuckolls cemetery. Frances died in 1852. John died in 1856. Garrett Longmire Sandidge died in 07 Feb 1871 and is buried in Bossier; LA. Records have not been found showing when he left Alabama for Louisiana. The condition of the cemetery is poor.
